This is one of the days when I decide to do something and end up doing completely different. Intending to study all day today, I am actually enjoying the rain, having my third cup of coffee and watching Bridget Jone Diaries. In addition to that I have also decided to write more often than I used to. No particular topic to write about today. Just a bunch of random thoughts.

1. If things are to go wrong, they will- Everything; good or bad happens for a reason. I’d like to believe in the greater good and that eventually everything that happens will lead to something good. So if you feel everything is wrong, then just hang in there. The night is darkest before dawn. Something nice will surely turn up. Be positive

2. No one can tell you what to do and what not to- People think different from each other. It is not necessary that one has to approve of the others actions. But this does not give one the freedom to do something that annoys everyone else.

3. If you expect to be heard, then learn to listen- The art of listening is a virtue. It is always better to take a step back and listen carefully and think about something before jumping to a conclusion about anything. Take a minute to actually listen to what the other person is saying and the perspective they are coming from. I assure that 90% of conflicts can be resolved without any yelling or name calling.

4. Every action can be explained when it is done but may be not after- People do stupid things and make wrong choices at various points in life depending on how stupid they were at that time or how the circumstances were. No one is perfect, not even you, so dont judge someone else’s actions. In retrospect, everything seems wrong but being in their shoes at that time is a totally different situation.

5. You will miss on the subtle happiness in life if you take life way too seriously- I have learnt this the hard way. Small things like seeing a baby smile, watching the rain, listening to your fav music, eating your fav icecreamspending time with your loved ones are priceless. We are so engrossed in work and in ourselves that we forget about the things that define us. Take time out for things that you love to do. If not anything, they will revitalize your energy to get back out there and keep moving.

6. Express love to your loved ones once in a while- It will not kill you to tell someone how much you love them once in a while. It not only makes the other person happy but in turn it will make you happy, seeing them happy. A little appreciation does wonders to any relationship.

7. Learn to let go- Life is too short to hold any grudges. Forget the bad memories and choose to remember the good ones. Thinking bad and remembering the moments that hurt you will only make you miserable. Just move on and add some good memories. Keep smiling

8. You choose how you want to be- Happy? Sad? Content? Dissatisfied? It all depends on you. Choose and take actions towards what you want to be. Work towards what you want and if you are sincere in your efforts, you are bound to see the results one day or another. Patience is the key.

9. Don’t be a stick in the mud always- It is good to have set ways of doing things and sticking to your beliefs. But it is also equally important to embrace change. I do not say compromise on your values but be flexible enough to atleast consider new ideas. We are surrounded by people of different cultures and backgrounds and it is unfair to expect everyone to work around your belief system. Be open to other perspectives. It does not hurt to look through someone’s eyes for once.

That is all for now. Adios !!!!

This is just one of the days when I feel weird but in a funny way. I actually do not know what is so amusing.

It is at times like these that I start thinking of things which probably have no end to them. How many of us are actually there? I mean how many “me”s and “u”s are there? How many of us are actually “us” with everyone?

I agree that everyone has many facets to their personality but that makes me think which one of those is the real one. Personally, I have many friends. Funny thing, the kind of interaction I have with each of them is soooo different from the other.

So, do people get to choose which character they want to be everyday? It is really interesting if we think about it. I can decide to be a complete gloomy person at work today and then come home and act as if I am the happiest person on earth

Forget that.. look around you. Who is actually being themselves? I bet it is very few. The same person when in an upscale restaurant will act differently when compared to when he is in a dhaba I can think of innumerable examples depicting the same thing. There is a certain amount of adjustment, growing up and maturity that each of us get depending on the people, place and age. But among all this, I am afraid that we tend to lose who we really are. This change comes along naturally to some and for some, it is induced because they don’t want to be left alone and want to be a part of the crowd.

Guess the recent trend of finding peace in the mountains is one of the ways to getting in touch with the real you. Life would be so much more simpler if we were just one true person and didn’t lose it in the battle of fitting in with everyone. Who created everyone anyway? We did..

I am sure it is not as easy as I am making it sound. But atleast there can be a start. Stop confusing yourself by being so many of you and just get the real you out there and not bother if you are or not a part of the crowd for being that. The people who accept you are your friends and the ones who don’t were never in the first place.

May be, that is why my favorite line has always been “be yourself !!!”

Slept on the couch with eyes wide open and didnt even know when I fell asleep. The next thing I know is my roomie making omlet at 6 am in the morning. The moon was still bright in the sky and I couldnt believe that I had to get out of my bed .. I mean couch, to start my first day of work in the toughest and the craziest city- NYC.

Somehow I wasnt feeling the rush of starting my new job. I dont know why I had a weird feeling. I didnt even bother cross checking the train I was suppose to take. Anyway.. I left with my room mate to catch the bus to the city. I felt so nostalgic. I did the same last summer but I felt happy doing that. I was amazed at how opposite I was feeling today than what I did a year ago. I didnt sleep at all in the bus even though I had hardly managed to get 4 hours of sleep the previous night. Reached the city. Took the subway thinking I was right about the train number. Somehow I felt that something was not right .. and I was right about it After 7 stops or so I realized that I wasnt on the right train. Thank God for my habit of checking the map that I could figure out the right train.

I was lucky that I made it on time. I went through the same procedure as I did last summer so wasnt really expecting anything new. But I was wrong….During registration, we were suppose to enter our birth dates. I saw all 86 and 87s. I suddenly felt old. I didnt know if I belonged there anymore. I managed to get to my table and was relieved to see a familiar face. With 7 out of 8 people on the table talking about exams and certifications, I didnt know whether to run away or strangle myself. I kept getting up to get water, use the restroom.. finding every excuse to stay away from the table. I was so damn low that I started feeling that I was the dumbest graduate among the undergrads.

As the day progressed, I talked to a few people I knew from last year and they told me that it wasnt that big of a deal and that I could manage it. Their confidence in me finally let me breathe some air..Then again, after lunch we were bombarded with online courses and pre-assessment courses which would test our knowledge. Suddenly I felt I knew nothing. Its not that I should know everything but somehow it scared the hell out of me. To top it, I could not access the link to take the test which everyone already finished. Fun fun… I wanted to run away from there.

Finally, the day was over. I couldnt access the link. I felt stupid and broken.. Came back home to realize that the boxes I shipped last week hadnt reached home yet. That meant, no kitchen stuff and no proper dinner. So my dinner for the night was a banana and some milk. However, my roomie was kind enough to offer me some food she made. After a very weird day I am enjoying the loud noise of the TV which my other roomie is seeing to suppress the voice of my other roomie who is talking to my yet another roomie Well.. at the end of the day I am back to the couch since my bed hasnt been changed yet… It is again me and the moon….

WELCOME TO THE BIG BAD WORLD !!!!

Today, everyone is in what we call “THE RAT RACE”. Ever wondered why it is called that? Probably, since they move around so fast..It doesnt matter. We are all rats for now…We work hard, get stressed, hate people and at times ourselves to achieve some goal we set for ourselves. That goal can be good grades, job, promotion, partner, and the list goes on.

I often wonder, what is all this striving for? A new struggle after every other struggle. What is it that matters in the end?

People strive to get a well paying job. Fine.. you get the money but you work twice the time and twice as hard. Does that extra money compensate for the time you would have spent with your friends or family? That is a subjective opinion. I personally dont think it would.

I had this discussion once with a very close friend of mine. When I spoke out loud, it struck me that we stress ourselves out for no reason. Everything takes its own course and stressing ourselves more or less will not change things from happening. This does not mean that one should not work hard. One should do their work and not worry about the outcome. Worrying about the outcome is something one must do before taking action and not after.

In the end, all that matters is doing what you like while being surrounded with family, friends, and good health.

I believe all this can keep someone happy even if that person does not have everything in the world.
